Baby Shower Gift

4/12/10: This post is now linked up at:

My friend and I used to work together in waste management. No, I am not referencing the mob here. I literally mean "waste management"; as in, reduce, reuse, recycle... that sort of thing. She is still there; I moved on to teaching. Because of this connection, I knew that she would appreciate my thrifting and refashioning her baby shower gift. So, with the help of amazing mae's applique tutorials this is what I gave to Baby Boo Berry:

My picture is a little difficult to make out, but the shirt says "Mommy's Alarm Clock"--made with twill tape, alphabet stamps, and fabric markers (another tip I borrowed from amazing mae!). The diaper cover is made from a thrifted wool sweater. I'm not thrilled with the waistband, but I ran out of ideas and time, so... there it is. The baby booties are also made from said sweater, with ribbon and rooster button embellishments, in my first attempt (there will be more!) using the free pattern from HELLO, my name is Heather.

I also made this sweet little outfit for my coworker's girl, who is expected to arrive in a couple of weeks. The shirt says "Daddy's Angel". For the skirt, I used the ends of a leg of some pants that fit me before I had my baby.... and some other scrap fabrics I had in my stash. It was fun!

  1. cute!! I found some stuff that can easily be refashioned to toddler skirts. Not sure yet if I will do it, or send you the project! :)

  2. Love the little skirt - going to have to do that! Would work great for dolls clothes for my little too.
